Who is Mike the Tiger?

Mike the Tiger is the live Bengal–Siberian mix tiger who serves as the official mascot of Louisiana State University. More than just a symbol, Mike represents school pride, tradition, and the unique bond between LSU students, alumni, and the Baton Rouge community.

Unlike costumed mascots, Mike is a living ambassador whose presence emphasizes responsibility, respect for wildlife, and the importance of ethical animal care. His daily routines are carefully designed to ensure both physical and mental stimulation, reflecting modern standards in animal welfare and conservation education.

Mike’s role goes beyond game days. Whether he’s lounging in the sun, playing with his toys, or just looking unbothered, he’s become a familiar and well-loved presence on campus. For many students, spotting Mike is a small but memorable part of the LSU experience.

History

Mike the Tiger has been LSU’s mascot for decades, with multiple generations of tigers carrying the name. The current live mascot is Mike VII, the seventh tiger in the lineage of LSU’s live mascots.

Life on Campus

Mike lives in a custom-designed habitat near Tiger Stadium. His enclosure includes enrichment features, shaded areas, and viewing spaces for fans and visitors.

Social Media Star

Mike has a strong online presence, with fans following his daily activities, enrichment sessions, and special moments through official LSU social media accounts.
